Admissions

Quainton Church of England Primary School operates a one point of admission into Reception class every September. We also accept in-year admissions. Our planned admission number is 30 children per class. This is based on our net capacity which considers the space available to children and the facilities at the school. This number has been agreed by the school’s governing body and the Local Authority.

The Admissions Policy for children of compulsory school age is managed and operated by the Local Authority. They allocate places according to specific needs and distance from home to school. Full details are available from Buckinghamshire Council. Please follow the link below for further details:

We accept four year olds into the Reception class in the September of the academic year that they turn five. We meet with the parents during the summer term after children have been allocated their school place. The children will also be invited to an induction day during the summer term to get to know their teacher and the rest of the class

If your child is starting school in September 2026, the closing date for applications are in January 2026.  We will be holding an open morning on Friday October 17th 2025 for parents looking to start in Reception in September 2026. Please arrive from 9am am for a chance to meet the Headteacher and then tours of the school. We look forward to meeting you.

We welcome new admissions to our school from both within and outside the catchment area. Here are just some of the comments parents have shared about our school:

“The teachers and the headteacher are very approachable and willing to discuss any issues.”

“The class teacher knows my child almost as well as me.”

“The choir and football clubs have brought my daughter out of her shell.”

“My son has a wonderful teacher who always makes time for me. I have always had great communication with the school.”

“His teacher makes learning fun and her enthusiasm and energy shines through to the kids.”

“I feel that my daughter is extremely safe at school.”

Please note If parents wish to appeal against a decision to refuse entry, they can do so by
applying to the LEA. An independent appeals panel then meets to consider all
appeals by parents who have been refused a place at our school and who wish
to appeal against this decision. The closing date for this is 28th February every year.

Secondary School Admissions for entry in 2027

Despite your children still having over a year before they leave Quainton and move on to secondary school, we need to start thinking about the secondary school admissions process for entry in 2027.

All parents will need to apply for a place at the secondary school of their choice using the Buckinghamshire County admissions website: https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools-index/school-admissions/apply-for-a-secondary-school-place/ Please note applications cannot be made until September 7th 2026 and the last day to make an application is 31st October 2026.

All Year 5 children on roll at Quainton will be automatically registered for the Secondary Transfer Test (11 plus) – for entry into a Buckinghamshire grammar school. This will be administered in school on Thursday 10th September 2026. If you do not wish your child to sit the test, please inform the school before that date.

If you feel your child has a specific need and requires reasonable adjustments i.e. extra time. Please contact myself before June 2nd to discuss. Please note that adjustments have to be based on evidence, for example a formal diagnosis, and should be normal classroom practice.

Buckinghamshire County Council have produced a presentation explaining the secondary admissions process and the Secondary Transfer Test. I have placed this information on our school website which can be accessed using the following link: https://www.quainton.bucks.sch.uk/key-info/admissions

If you are yet to register with the results service from Buckinghamshire County Council we have attached instructions to do so.  If not attached you have already registered.
